Congratulations to Ben Strover of Top Squad who on Monday raced in the Open Water Nationals. Ben was in the very long distance race at Rother Valley Country Park in Sheffield. With the water temperature dropping wetsuits were compulsory. The advantage to a wetsuit is you swim faster, the disadvantage is that it rubs the back of the neck, especially on a 5k race.
With swimmers physically very close together open water swimmers are likely to face contact, especially at the hectic start with everyone trying to get on the racing line for the first turn. This race was no different, especially with all swimmers being roughly the same top ability,
Ben finished 14 in age group category and 21st overall in 1 hour and 16.96 seconds. Considering the race was about an hour, six swimmers posted times of 1 hour and 0 minutes and either 14, 15 or 16 seconds . An incredibly close race indeed.
An excellent swim Ben.
